Russian mixed martial artist Omari Akhmedov spent eight years competing in the Ultimate Fighting Championship and has recently moved to the Professional Fighters League.
Like many of his peers from the Dagestan area of Russia, Akhmedov competed in freestyle wrestling from a young age. He has been named the Dagestan Combat Sambo Champion, Russian National Hand-to-Hand Combat Champion and Russian National Pankration Champion twice, an impressive track record in the world of wrestling. In 2010 he made his professional mixed martial arts debut, and three years later was signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He won his first fight with the promotion, also being awarded Fight of the Night on his debut with the UFC. He won a second Fight of the Night accolade in 2015, and quickly gained a reputation for being a consistent and fierce fighter with numerous wins with the promotion. Akhmedov has won 21 out of 29 bouts, winning 7 matches by knockout and 6 by submission. He continued to be one of the most well loved fighters in the promotion over the next few years, and now has over 220k followers on his Instagram page where he posts updates and behind the scenes photos.
Most recently, Akhmedov has signed with the Professional Fighters League, making his debut with the promotion in October 2021. Fans are looking forward to what comes next for the talented fighter, and he continues to rise to the top.
