Peta Murgatroyd

Peta Murgatroyd is an Australian professional Latin dancer and entrepreneur. Her popularity is reflected in her 846k followers on Instagram, with a growing online influence. She was born in 1986 in Auckland, New Zealand. Her parents are Suzanne and Derek Murgatroyd. She moved to Australia at the age of just 18 months, growing up in Perth and therefore considers herself more Australian. At the age of just four she started to train in classical ballet. When she was sixteen an ankle injury influenced her to move from ballet to Latin dancing.

Murgatroyd found rapid success after starting ballroom training and became the Western Australian Amateur Latin State Champion in 2002 and 2003. She continued to achieve in competitions. In the Lion City Championships in Singapore she was a semi-finalist and was a finalist in the Australian Open Championships. In 2005 at the Blackpool Dance Festival Youth under 21 Latin Competition she was third.

Murgatroyd is perhaps most famous for her appearances on the American Edition of Dancing with the Stars, she became a regular member of the professional cast in season 13 and she has won twice with her partners. She was in the dance production called Burn the Floor that featured on Broadway and toured internationally. In 2018 she starred with Robert Krantz in the film Faith Hope and Love. She also owns her own beauty business which has brought her a great amount of success, further establishing her name. Murgatroyd married Latin-ballroom dance champion Maksim Chmerkovskiy in 2017 and they have a son Shai Aleksander.
