Zachary Michael King, born on February 4, 1990, in Portland, Oregon, is an American internet personality based in Los Angeles. He gained prominence for his “magic vines,” which are six-second videos digitally edited to appear as if he is performing magic, a technique he refers to as “digital sleight of hand.” King started his online journey by posting videos on YouTube in 2008. In 2013, he expanded his presence to Vine, a platform popular for short looping clips, and later to TikTok (originally musical.ly) in 2016, where he has accumulated over 80 million followers as of March 2025. His innovative approach to video editing and storytelling quickly captivated a global audience.
King’s early career involved establishing his website, FinalCutKing.com, in 2008, which offered tutorials and advice on using Final Cut Pro editing software. This venture, along with his YouTube tutorials on visual effects, helped him build an initial following. In 2011, he produced the viral video “Jedi Kittens,” showing two kittens fighting with lightsabers, which garnered over a million views in three days and eventually more than 25 million views. His success led YouTube to recognize him in May 2013 as one of the 25 most promising young filmmakers in America through their NextUp Creators cohort, providing him with a $35,000 award and a trip to a YouTube Creator Camp. As of May 2025, his YouTube channel boasts 42 million subscribers and 21.4 billion views across 775 videos.
Beyond short-form video content, King has also ventured into writing and traditional media. He is the author of two children’s book series, including three books based on Minecraft and a trilogy titled “Magic Life” which blends fantasy with elements of his own life. In 2015, Zach and his wife, Rachel Holm, participated in the 28th season of the American reality game show “The Amazing Race,” finishing in sixth place. Furthermore, King has lent his voice to characters in animated films like “Zootopia” (2016) and has directed and co-directed several short films. His consistent creativity and engagement with evolving digital platforms have solidified his status as a notable figure in online entertainment.
