Gaelic Storm is an American Celtic band that has captivated audiences since its formation in 1996 in Santa Monica, California. The band emerged from a series of pub performances led by founding members Patrick Murphy and Steve Wehmeyer, alongside Steve Twigger and Uillean piper Brian Walsh. Their early gigs laid the groundwork for a vibrant musical journey, blending traditional Irish and Scottish music with original compositions, which quickly garnered a loyal following.
The band’s breakthrough came with their appearance in the 1997 blockbuster film Titanic, where they performed as the steerage band. This exposure propelled them into the spotlight, leading to a successful touring career across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, and Japan. Their energetic performances and engaging stage presence have made them a favorite at festivals and venues alike.
Over the years, Gaelic Storm has released 14 albums, including two compilation albums, with many topping the Billboard World Music Charts. Their fifth album, How Are We Getting Home?, debuted at #3 on the Billboard World Music Charts, showcasing their ability to resonate with a wide audience. The band continues to innovate, with their 2008 album What’s the Rumpus? reaching #1 on the Billboard World Chart.
As of 2024, Gaelic Storm remains a dynamic force in the music scene, with original members Murphy and Twigger still at the helm, joined by a talented lineup that includes Ryan Lacey, Peter Purvis, and Natalya Kay. Their upcoming tour, “The Mighty Tour 2,” promises to deliver the same infectious energy and passion that has defined their career for nearly three decades.
