Hailed as the Godfather of pop, Rusty Egan is a London-born DJ, a prodigy of punk, new wave and synth-pop genres, with a musical career spanning across groups such as Rich Kids, The Misfits, Skids, Shock and his band Visage. Making waves in the era of the New Romantic music, Rusty Egan is also a deserved receiver of a lifetime achievement award in the London Club and Bar Awards, 2009.
Egan made his home at the Blitz Club in London, which in the eighties became a hub for the famous and fashionable, including David Bowie, Grace Jones and Jack Nicholson. Here, he partnered up with Steve Strange, who later became frontman in Visage and with whom he developed the sounds of New Romantic beats. It was also at Blitz that Egan introduced London to musical influences from the clubs of Germany and Japan. Later, Egan and Strange opened up the Camden Palace club, and Egan even ran his own New Romantic record store, The Cage.
Today, Egan continues to live and breathe music, as he always has from his first days in the punk scene. Described by Strange as a ‘jack-the-lad’ type, Egan still holds great authority in the genres he has been associated with throughout his incredibly diverse and affluent musical career, most recently releasing a new electronic album ‘Welcome to the Dancefloor’. Now in his sixties, Egan is a veteran of the London club scene, a talented disc jockey with a wealth of experience, and an artist that is a true asset to London’s musical history.
