As one of the true pioneers of Chicago house, Gene Hunt has enjoyed an illustrious career that spans back to the birth of the genre in the early 80s. With a talent for switching effortlessly from rough, technical beats to soulful vocal house, Hunt has cemented his place as a top-class DJ by headlining some of the greatest festivals across the globe including Glastonbury, Outside Lands and Coachella. A three-time NBC Chicago Music Awards winner, he’s earned both critical acclaim and millions of fans throughout his career.
Hunt began spinning records in the mid-1980s at only 15 years old, and it wasn’t long before he was noticed by one of the best DJs in the world. The legendary Ron Hardy became Hunt’s mentor and is still one of his greatest influences to this day. In 1987 Hunt released his first explosive EP, Living in the Land, on Chicago’s Trax Records label, kicking off a catalogue of successful hits that easily filled a Greatest Hits double LP by 1999. His career soared further after releasing some of his finest cuts on labels including Djax, Hybrid, MC Projects and Svek, and in 2011 he released the classic collection Gene Hunt Presents Chicago Dance Tracks on Rush Hour, featuring previously unreleased tracks from Steve “Silk” Hurley, Farley Jackmaster Funk and Lil Louis amongst others.
The meticulous dedication to his craft shown by Gene Hunt over 25 years has ensured he has remained in demand for a variety of projects, including joining the Aria team for Roland, using his expertise to develop his line of headphones used by leading house legends and launching his own imprint Jack In The Hunt.
