Over the past decade Japanese producer and DJ Goth-Trad has emerged as one of the most arresting artists of his generation. His career began at the turn of the millennium, forming a part of electronic dub outfit Rebel Familia and making a mark on Japan’s experimental electronic music scene. From abstract electronica to noise, from dub and reggae to jungle and rave music, grime to dubstep, Goth-Trad has always experimented and in the process developed a unique style that’s all his own.
Following his debut, Goth-Trad’s notoriety within the Japanese scene grew as he developed an improvisational style that has continued evolving to this day. The years that followed led to a European tour and a slot opening for art-rock band The Mars Volta on their 2004 Japanese tour, alongside a series of three highly-praised albums that turned heads the world over. The third album featured a track called “Back To Chill”, an idiosyncratic fusion of grime and dubstep that came out on UK imprint Skud Beats and led to a fourth European tour. It was during this tour that Goth-Trad attended seminal dubstep night FWD>> and met figurehead of the scene Mala. This meeting led to the producer being signed to influential label Deep Medi, sparking a connection to the UK dubstep scene that has propelled the artist into international recognition.
Following his 2007 Deep Medi debut “Cut End”, Goth-Trad has released countless EPs and albums across a series of highly-rated labels around the UK and the world. His dubstep opus “New Epoch”, released on Deep Medi in 2012, cemented his position as a titan of the genre, with FACT Magazine naming it as one of the year’s best. Since then, Goth-Trad has continued to tour the world, electrifying audiences across Europe, Asia and the US while playing festival stages such as Coachella, Fuji Rock, Lockdown and Outlook Festival.
The gifted producer also runs Japan’s most notorious bass-driven club night and label ‘Back To Chill’, inviting future-facing DJs and producers from around the world to join him in Tokyo. 2018 has seen the producer continue touring and producing while forming new metal-influenced group EARTAKER alongside vocalist Diesuck and noise artist Masayuki Imanishi – their debut album is scheduled for release September 2018 via Bedouin Records.
